The first few weeks of my son, Alexander’s life, he would not latch onto my nipples to feed. Our Birthing Doula who is also a Midwife, Geneva Montana, taught me how to position Alex to my nipples with a few holds. At Alex’s first Pediatric appointment his doctor, handed us a small bottle of formula to give him immediately because he was not Latching on and getting enough milk from me. His doctor gave us a few tips that have worked for Mom’s including, drinking Fenugreek tea, rubbing my breastmilk all over my chest, and pumping. That day I started pumping every 2 hours, so I would bottle feed my milk to my baby. The doctor told my husband and I to not give up on breastfeeding Alex. It was frustrating because Alex would cry when I would place him in a hold on my fenugreek tasting, nipple guard, milky skin breasts, and that made me feel as though I was torturing him and not listening to his needs.
